SCIM working! (Was: Re: [tlug] Re: EeePC so far)

Well, thanks everyone. I now have scim/anthy
working fine on the EeePC, and can input Japanese
into apps like Firefox, vi, etc.

What I had to do was set up a terminal with a Japanese
environment. It may have been overkill, but as root I did:
XMODIFIERS=@example.com LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 uxterm&

and in the uxterm ran:

im-switch -z ja_JP.UTF-8 -s scim

That seemed to do the trick. scim is there as a daemon when I
boot, and once an app is there left-click on scim's icon
lets you select anthy, and ctrl-space toggles it. No need for
any (more) locale fiddling.

Thanks again. Much relief.

Cheers

Jim
