[tlug] Ubuntu Error Messages

Dear Fellow TLUG Members,

Lately I've been getting the following error messages (repeated several times) when booting Ubuntu 8.04.  It seems fairly likely that there is a problem with my hard disk, but when I run fsck on it, it comes back clean.  Anyone know what the problem may be?  A physical problem with the disk perhaps?

[   31.500788] ata1.00: BMDMA stat 0x25
[   31.500799] ata1.00: cmd c8/00:40:87:d2:11/00:00:00:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 32768 in
[   31.500802]          res 51/40:00:af:d2:11/00:00:00:00:00/e0 Emask 0x9 (media error)
[   31.500807] ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
[   31.500810] ata1.00: error: { UNC }
[   31.517137] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/100
[   31.517151] ata1: EH complete

These error messages also occur when I try to update my installed packages via the Update Manager (apt-get upgrade).

Cheers,

Peter Jacobs
