Just wondering, but you're talking about session cookies here with
respect to an RSS file.  Is there any guarantee that Thunderbird has
saved your session cookie (which is presumably provided when you scan
the RSS file)?  Or maybe it has expired it between scanning the RSS
file and you clicking on the link?  How does your system typically
behave when you have no session cookie set?
