Yeah, but why do you care? Do your best to turn it into a bridge or
maybe a simple firewall to give the ssh script-kiddies one more hoop
to jump through, and then put the interesting stuff on your own box
inside. 90Mbps is not something to kick away lightly, and someday you
may appreciate having your own private DMZ.

The primary reason for running your own router is control. Stability is another issue may effect you. The router supplied by my first internet provider crashed a lot under load. When I setup a openwrt router about 3 years ago, router latency was the main issue. Apparently to get higher throughput many routers cache a fair bit of data before sending. This isn't an issue when you are only concerned about throughput but can cause problems for low latency applications like video conferencing. Maybe current routers support QOS properly and so this might not be a problem anymore.
