Indeed. Since the error is picked up and dealt with elsewhere, we
have yet another case where it's a better trade-off not to write very
fault-tolerant code.

We've seen this sort of discussion before. It seems that the, "It's
always better to do blah-blah-blah" rules always have exceptions.
