Sure, I agree with the above.

However, the question was not about whether or not any amount of time spent on handling spam email is wasted.

The question was if a large amount of email stored on the system can create instability.

It seems that the emails that have already arrived and piled up are not a problem.

But, if I could ask a follow up question:

If I leave a domain open to receive un-routed email, is it possible for some maximum amount of incoming email to cause instability? Like if I get few dozen, hundred, or thousand all at once?

I'm trying to find out what would be the root cause of the email instability I've seen recently. It seems potentially tied to the issue of un-routed email, but I can't quite grasp how.
