Don't know WIMP and Google don't help much. Most of the hits (on the first
few pages) imply that it's roughly a synonym for "GUI".[1]

I have been using "display" for plain old image viewing, and other ImageMagick
utilities in scripts for cropping and resizing images for years with never a
memory problem. These were mostly 256Meg machines. Of course YMMV.
