I agree with Josh to a certain extent. Icons and a million other things
cluttering up the desktop are a waste of time IMO. It's far easier for
me to press the dedicated "email" button on my keyboard to fire up
Sylpheed than to leave the keyboard and reach for the mouse.

The taskbar does, however have its uses and I don't object to a small
strip of real estate (on a 19" LCD monitor) being occupied. That is all
there is, though. No fancy wallpaper, no icons, no nothing to distract
me from what I'm doing. It could even be argued that I have hardly any
need for a GUI at all except that I do a fair amount of video
processing and I earn my living among other things building websites.
