[1]This is the one I have played round with. It has native mpeg4
compression and v4l2 drivers[2]. It also works with mythtv. I have to
say that I am currently having problems with the drivers, something to
do with upgrading udev or hotplug, getting it working again is somewhere
on the list of things to do when I get some free time;)

Thanks, that looks nice. I see it at sofmap for 15,900. I also see the PCI version with the same chip for 4,980 at www.tzone.com. But I can't find much info about whether it works

http://sea-mew.jp/nox/data/linux/PX-TV432P.html

suggests it's possible but maybe requires patches etc. I don't want to
get into a lot of messing around given my time constraints.

I was wandering around tzone and saw lots of mini-itx (Via Epia etc).
With mp4 built into the card, I figure I could get away with the
cheapest 600Mhz board

http://www.tzone.com/diy/goods.jsp?cat=0%2C2%2C355&goodsSeqno=59482

but their website doesn't show any mini-itx cases. Sofmap has 2 but
they seem kinda pricey, ~14,000 (more than the motherboard) maybe I
just don't know the price of mini-itx cases...
