I haven't tried Gentoo on that machine. 

I'll look around for a LiveCD and report back to the list.  
The ones that didn't work were Edgy Eft, Arch, Frugal (originally based
on Arch, IIRC) and KateOS (based on Slack, at least in its beginnings.)

On the other hand, the latest xorg-7.1 does seem to work, at least in
Edgy (the only live CD I tried) on my main box, which has an integrated
Unichrome card that takes a via driver.  The earlier xorg-7.1 things
didn't work with it.
