Maybe that was a tad too radical. Firefox fired up, and had its history and
bookmarks intact, but it didn't know about the homepage I had set for it.
It printed squares where I wanted kanji.

I haven't bothered to set up Mozilla Mail since I accidentally wiped it out
a month or two ago, so I didn't test it, but Mozilla Browser comes up just
find (I didn't have to tell it who was my ISP even; does the router take
care of that?). Anyway, I repeated my test: Google <nihongo-in-kanji>,
start the printer and pull the job quick before much ribbon gets wasted.
Nice kanji, no squares.

My attempt to run Thunderbird brought me a set-up window. I went through
the steps but stupidly left "get mail now" checked, all the while knowing
it couldn't work because it didn't know the proper port number (995) or my
password. When the screen came up, I couldn't do anything with it at all.
I ended up having to do this response from the Amiga side, with YAM.

Meanwhile, that may be just as well. I probably would have ended up wiping
everything out, but it looks like all my Thunderbird data is sitting there,
inaccessible. Here's part of the directory:

etc.

I list that in hopes that somebody might be able to give me hints as to how
to maneuver Thunderbird to use /xmm1khnz.default again, without losing it
forever.

Obviously, I skipped the part about printing CJK from it.

OK. I guess that means you don't agree 100% with Stephen even if he does
get part of the credit for Emacs.
