[tlug] Becoming Windows Free: Linux Lazer Printers

Like Jim, I've had very good luck with HP. I've not gotten a
Postscript version since the LJ2 I bought in 1989 or so, but the
Ghostscript drivers are fine (at least up to LJ6). The LJ2 didn't
die, it retired due to lack of cartridges (in this country, anyway).
The LJ6 is 5 years old IIRC and still going strong (except for the
infamous Tsukuba black dust which cannot be distinguished from printer
toner without a scorecard, but that's another matter).

I've got a couple of Canon inkjet multifunction guys, but I solved
that driver problem by hanging them off of Macs. One of these days
I'm going to see if I can find Linux drivers for them. I also ought
to see if the Canon drivers work with open source Darwin (ie, just the
kernel and FreeBSD-oid userspace, no Aqua/Quartz goodness).
