Ok Joe, if you don't mind, that would be good too. 

At this point, I'm trying to determine if monitor or card is the more
likely culprit for me.

As xorg 7.1 is still relatively new, I've only found a few people with
similar problems--one with a Gateway monitor (different model) and one
with a Matrox card.
