Have you tried since you were able to get gnome-pilot to connect?
jpilot uses pilot-link as a back-end, as does gnome-pilot if this
thread is anything to go by. It's also the front-end I use here - with
no problems at all...

After it became apparent that gnome-pilot was crazy unreliable, I went on a tour of all the other applications.

With J-pilot, all the web sites I've read advice that one should press the sync button on the palm *before* hitting it in J-Pilot. However, if I do that, then J-Pilot says:

Syncing on device /dev/ttyUSB1
Press the HotSync button now
****************************************
... and then waits indefinitely without doing anything else.

If I press the hotsync button on the Palm first, it says:
dlp_ReadSysInfo error
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT
Finished
