I can see your point, but I usually use this kind of thing to mirror a
directory on a backup machine so if the main machine goes kablooey I can
easily switch over to the backup machine. I also use it to migrate data
on old drives to new machines. Backup files I write to archive media
such as DVD-R (but I use cpio for that).
