There used to be, in RH 7.x at least, (and other distros) a program
called kon.  (It might be called kon2)  I don't have a Fedora install
here to test if yum has it but I would think it should still be
available. (It might be called kon2)

It's an easy way to get Japanese to disply in console--type kon at the
command prompt and IIRC it's sort of like a framebuffer screen.  

I haven't used it in a long time, so there are no guarantees on this.
