The main disadvantage of the Sharp Zaurus is that Sharp didn't get the
OpenSource idea. They comply with the licenses as far as they need, but
the Desktop Environment they deliver with the Zaurus is not OpenSource
but a fork of TrollTech's Qtopia. In addition, starting with the recent
versions, the data format they use to store all the data on the device
was changed from XML to some proprietary one. All this makes working
with the software on the device just plain painful and synchronization
software for Linux is still rare (nothing from Sharp).

On the positive side, there are OpenSource Linux distributions for the
Zaurus, but for the recent Zaurus models they still lag behind...

Other positive points:
 - the hardware itself is nice, and it runs Linux (but maybe needs some
tinkering if your desktop also runs under Linux, because of Sharp).
 - the dictionaries included in the C3000 (not sure about C1000) follow
a standard format for which OpenSource applications are available, and
even some additional free dictionaries are available in that format.
