When you talk about reopening the archives do you mean for all archives
our just new posts from that time on.  I think making a change on old
posts is not really fare on the people who made them.  At the time they
were not search engine accessible.

Only display names not email addresses.  Optionally have a password
protected list of names and corresponding email addresses for people who
want to make their email address available.  I get in excess of 100 spam
email a day on one account I used to post to xsl list because of
spiders.

If the archive is search engine accessible then this should be made
clear to new users.
