A few reasons.  One, is to develop and keep good habits.  Secondly,
those with idle curiosity who read the post, even if there's nothing
exciting about it, often like to know who said what.   So, we could say
it's simple courtesy to those who read the posts.  :)


To those experienced on *nix lists, one would have to say this is
obvious--however, to the newcomer, it may not be as obvious an answer.
