Come on.  Linus releases the base kernel with well defined and rather
free terms..  Others are free to take it where they want within the
limits of the distribution license.  Some linux distributions take one
place on the curve, others another.  All of them take a stance and
prioritize some particular issue (or set of said).  Claiming
dictatorial powers in the hands of any one of them is at best fantasy.
You will probably never get a software venue with more choice and and
such a lack of coercion as you have now with the present ecology of
uni..Linux distros.

I have few views on Mandrake other than the observation that some
folks I respect seem to like it.  Most folks I know who go for it tend
to be from a harder core technical bent and I have yet to see a bank
or other non-startup with real money on the line go for it.  Most in
that sort of situation tend toward Redhat or if from europe, possibly
SuSE.
