there already is a /var/tmp.
i used to link to it until i discovered that there is a difference
between /var/tmp and /tmp in that /tmp is cleared at reboot, while
/var/tmp is not. i have not found out if any programs really depend on
that behaviour, but just in case i link /tmp/ -> /var/root-tmp/
