Thanks for this.

I edited my .i18n file to look like yours, that is to say most items set
to ja_JP. Now I have full kinput2 functionality and most of my menus are
in english. Open Office Org still has Japanese menus but I guess I can live
with that. Regarding the instructions given in Japanese in
KDE under Mandrake 9.1 I think it might have been a bit of a bum
stear.
