.xinitrc is no longer executed with kdm,gdm, etc. You need to start
kinput2 somewhere else.
You can either do it globally by editing the session file of your xdm or
the global /ect/X11/Xsession, or just for yourself via .xsession or  with
your session manager. I'm sure KDE can register autostart programs (Gnome
can do this at least).
