Re: [tlug] easy ways to learn linux easily and quickly

Neil san,
It depends what you want to do with Linux. If you want to completely
understand the insides of Linux, remember that it is an operating system
that do not have anything to envy to Unix, Windows, MacOS, etc. Therefore I
think that you have to achieve knowledge about other topics like, basics of
operating systems, programming, protocols, etc. To understand an OS totally
is not an easy task!

I do not mean that you have to achieve a computer science degree to use
Linux. I only mean that if you want to understand the insides of any OS you
have to achieve knowledge that give you the support to understand it. The
people thinks that Windows is easier than Linux but I don't thing so. Maybe
the GUI, or configuration, but if you would like to underestand the insides
of windows it would be even more dfficult than linux, because it's close,
and with the disinformation politic of M$, it's a frustrating job.

If you only want to produce and enjoy, the possibilities that linux offers
to you are great and you do not need to go so deep in it. Just install a
distro like RedHat or Mandrake.

If it's not just read, read and read, the man, howto, etc. Try to install
linux from scratch www.linuxfromscratch.org and specially play with it. It's
a never ending story full of interesting and exciting things.

Cheers
Pietro.
