Check KDE and RedHat pages in http://www.tlug.jp/m17n/.  That shouldn't 
be too much.

KDE has problem with the input style.  If it only displays when you are 
with KDE apps, try

#kate -inputstyle overthespot

If it worked, then that is a well known overthespot problem.

I guess this is another problem than I mentioned above.  (Abiword is not 
a KDE application)

btw, why do you run both Canna and Wnn?  Their functions and 
functionalities are almost identical.
