Thank you very much for that. I will try the Japanese KDE on my system, but
I found the KDE login screen (when KDE is the default desktop) to be really
unfriendly. I found that JIS does not work so well on 7.2, so I have been
choosing EUCJP with gnome, but there is no place to choose the version of
Japanese with KDE, and when I enter KDE with localization set to Japanese,
it is horrible.

Maybe that is because I have not got it set up right. I hope it will work
out of the box in the future. I will give you directions a shot, though.
