Hi,
when I put in a NE2000 (ne2k-pci), I had same experience. A comment in the
driver code for 2.2.16-22 indicated that full duplex-mode is not
implemented. And when I remember the "manual" which came with the card
correctly: 100Mbps is only possible in full duplex mode.
