You're absolutely right (of course). I have the win2k machines ip in my 
/etc/hosts file and I thought that would be enough for DNS but I guess not?

I did an nslookup of the win2k's ip and that took a while, and of course 
there was no response since the win2k box uses a private ip.

How can I fix this?

None of the above are installed I think/hope.
