Nice analogy, but which is the Beetle and which is the shuttle? Seems
that one could make pretty convincing arguments either way. 

In the UNIX corner, Beetles are cheap (ok, in the _free_ *NIX
corner), relatively simple, run forever, and relatively easy to
maintain once you learn how, but lack fancy bells and whistles. 

Of course, your average space shuttle is quite a bit more powerful
than your average VW.

It's a tough call.

In the Other Operating Systems corner, the words "Bug" and
"Challenger" come to mind.

I guess that's the trouble with metaphors.
