Re: tlug: remote suspending/resuming of jobs?

Yes. However, it is really a tool that allows you to do this. It's
called screen. Screen allows multiple applications (text/console based)
to be run per session. I bleive you can have up to 16 terminal per
session with multiple sessions possible.

You can detatch and re-attatch a screen session including re attatching to
a terminal you did not start screen from.

For example, I start a screen session at work on a 386-DX40. I start a
kernel compile of the latest kernel sources and around quitting time, it
is still cranking away. I simply detatch the screen session (C-a d) and
go home. Once home, I log in to check to see if it's finished. Once
logged in, I can simply type 'screen -r' to re-attatch the running
session. You have to specify a session if there are multiple running.

If you forgot to detatch the screen session at work, from home you can
first type 'screen -d' which will detatch the session so that you can
re-attatch it.
