I don't know where pppd is, but if you use current Linux distributions,
it contains something GUI configuration tool. For example, 

+ netcfg
+ kppp

You can check the installation of their tools, typing following
command(the case you use RPM Linux distributions),

$ rpm -qi netcfg

You can see their tools on http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/
