I don't think that kmail (mailer that comes with kde) can display
japanese characters. Maybe with kde version 2? I didn't try balsa.
What's wrong with netscape mailer? besides the bugs that annoy me, I
didn't see any fundamental problem.
It works quite nicely.

Do you remember where to get these patches? or do you know where can I
find a rpm of pine or mutt, patched?
I already use pine time to time, I like it also. If I could have
japanese input for it...

BTW, I removed netscape 4.7J and installed the one you recommend (4.51J
from laser5). It works quite better. much more stable, but still not
perfect.
